Course: Appetizer, Brunch, Main Course, Side Dish
Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 6-8 slices bacon chopped
  • 1 small yellow onion diced
  • 2 teaspoons garlic minced
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • ¼ cup coconut sugar
  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 jalapeño minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon hot honey

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy, about 10–12 minutes.
  • Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate, leaving about 1-2 tablespoons of bacon grease in the pan. Discard any excess grease.
  • Add the sliced onion to the skillet with the bacon grease. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, for 15–20 minutes, until the onions become golden.
  • Add the minced garlic during the last 1–2 minutes of cooking and stir until fragrant.
  • Add the remaining ingredients, including the cooked bacon to the skillet.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture gently simmer for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally. As it cooks, the liquid will reduce, and the mixture will become thick and sticky.
If the mixture starts sticking too quickly, add a splash of water to loosen it.
  • Let the bacon jam cool slightly before transferring it to a clean glass jar or airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Enjoy!

Notes

For a smoother, more spreadable bacon jam, transfer the mixture to a food processor and pulse a few times until it reaches your desired consistency.
When using leftovers, reheat the Bacon Jam in a small pot over medium-low heat.
