How to Prepare this Savory Classic French Onion Soup

  1. In a large Cast Iron Dutch Oven, melt the garlic ghee over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and minced garlic. Sauté until tender and golden, about 10 minutes.
  2. Add the beef bone broth, beef bouillon paste, and Worcestershire sauce, bringing to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 40 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
  4. Ladle hot soup into a bowl, topping with a toasted slice of French bread. Enjoy!

Feel free to allow the French Onion Soup to simmer for longer than 40 minutes. This will allow the flavors to infuse for a more flavorful sip of soup! When I’m not in a rush, I will allow the soup to simmer for 2-3 hours. This makes our home smell so good!

If you prefer, top each piece of French bread with a slice of swiss cheese. Be sure to broil the cheesy French bread in the oven until it bubbles. Then add it as a topping to your soup for a delicious addition.

What to Pair with French Onion Soup

This soup pairs nicely with a toasted sandwich or salad. What can go wrong with these two combinations?! A toasted turkey sandwich loaded with veggies or a chicken caesar salad add the perfect touch for a delicious autumn meal. What makes these combinations even better is the fact that they contain protein and complex carbohydrates to help keep you feeling satisfied for longer.
