Below are a list of quick and easy snack ideas I reach for when I’m needing a little extra something. These snacks are low in added sugar and high in an array of nutrients, which will help keep you feeling full for longer.
Snacks are an important part of a healthy lifestyle. When choosing snacks that are low in added sugar and high in nutrients, snacks provide a good source of energy to get you through the day.
The key to picking a healthy snack is based on the nutritional profile. Is the snack a good source of protein, healthy fats and fiber, but low in added sugars, sodium and calories? If you’re purchasing a packaged snack, is the ingredient list short, containing ingredients you can easily read? When it comes to snacking, try sticking to these snack guidelines: 250 calories or less, 5-10 grams of protein, and 3-5 grams of fiber per snack.
Listed below are two sections for snack ideas you can prepare at home or purchase at the store.
My favorite snack lately has been my Crunchy Apple Nachos. There’s something so satisfying about biting into crisp apples, crunchy walnuts, and sweet chocolate chips.
I also love putting a bowl of fruit together and drizzling peanut butter, pecans, and pepitas on top. The toppings add a good source of protein, healthy fats, and crunch to this snack. Just be mindful with portions as calories add up quickly.
My Summertime Watermelon Goat Cheese Basil Salad is honestly one of my favorite recipes. I highly encourage you to give it a try!
Did you know popcorn is technically considered a whole grain? That’s what makes stovetop popcorn a great snack. If you drizzle a bit of butter, ghee or coconut oil on top, this popcorn tastes better than movie theater popcorn!
I make extra servings of my Tangy Mango Avocado Salsa and guacamole to ensure I have leftovers to last throughout the week. Both dips pair nicely with Siete’s lime tortilla chips! As a side note, these two appetizers also go great for any taco Tuesday. 🌮
Another quick grab and go snack I tend to have premade for those hectic weeks are hard boiled eggs, as they provide a good source of protein and healthy fats to satisfy hunger. Learn how to make the perfect hard boiled egg here.
My go-to snacks I tend to purchase at the store include hummus and veggies, cucumber with tajin seasoning, mixed nuts, fruit bars, beef sticks, and bone broth.
