The Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned is the state’s variation on the classic whiskey old fashioned. You can make it sweet or sour, garnishing with cherries, an orange slice, or pickled olives or mushrooms.
The Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned is a classic beverage that may be served as either sweet or sour. To make a brandy old fashioned sweet, top your drink with lemon-lime soda. However, for a brandy old fashioned sour, top your drink with grapefruit soda. Both variations are delicious!
It’s also very common for Wisconsin supper clubs, bars and restaurants to add a sugar cube to their old fashioned. I tend to ask if they can skip this ingredient, as I personally find this beverage sweet enough as it is. Just know, the Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned does tend to be sweeter than most old fashioned drinks found in other states.
Wisconsin truly knows how to garnish their cocktails. Most places will offer Maraschino cherries, orange peels, or olives. But others will offer a variety of pickled toppings such as mushrooms or brussels sprouts. Let me just say, the flavors surprisingly mix very well!
