Sharing 9 epic hikes you can’t miss when visiting Zion National Park. Which awe-inspiring hike will be your favorite?
We visited Zion in early September, with the weather ranging in the mid 70’s. Be mindful, if you go earlier in the summer, the temperatures will be even warmer.
When it comes to hiking in the desert, always be prepared. Check the weather before you go for a hike; starting early in the morning can lessen the chance of walking into a storm that may occur suddenly, later in the afternoon. And be sure to pack enough water and snacks to provide the energy needed to finish your hike. The weather in Zion during the summer months gets very hot and humid – it is extremely easy to become dehydrated in the desert.
Angels Landing – 4.3-mile out-and-back trail that is by far the most famous hike in the park. There is a lottery system for this hike you will need to follow, in order to have the permit to hike this trail.
The Narrows – 16-mile hike through the narrowest section of Zion Canyon. I recommend wearing water boots, carrying a waterproof backpack for snacks, cell phone, extra water, and using hiking sticks. Be mindful of any flash flood warnings – this hike can get dangerous, very quickly!
Kolob Arch via La Verkin Creek Trail – 13.9-mile out-and-back challenging trail with campsites along the way.
Hidden Canyon Trail – 3.1-mile out-and-back trail with switchbacks and narrow sections.
Observation Point – 7.0-mile out-and-back trail that leads to a stunning viewpoint of Zion.
The Subway – 7.0-mile out-and-back trail considered a highly challenging route – a permit is required.
Watchman Trail – 3.1-mile out-and-back trail, a great trail to watch the sunset during the summer months!
Canyon Overlook – 1.0-mile out-and-back trail with spectacular views of the park.
Pa’rus Trail – 3.2-mile out-and-back trail that is both wheelchair accessible and dog friendly.
Zion National Park is home to stunning views of sandstone cliffs with vibrant colors of pink, orange and red. It has easily become one of our top three favorite National Parks! If you have time during your trip to Utah, I highly recommend visiting either Moab, Bryce Canyon, or Capitol Reef – they’re all within 2.5 hours from Zion, offering their own stunning views of Utah’s stunning landscape.
